Care at the Chemist

If you have one of the following ailments, you can obtain advice and treatment from your chemist. The ailments included in this scheme are allergy, athlete's foot, cold sores, chesty cough, constipation, diarrhoea, dry cough, headache/ temperature, head lice, indigestion, nasal congestion, oral thrush, sore throat, threadworm and vaginal thrush.

Ask the Patient Care Advisor if you can be referred to the scheme. You will be asked to take a completed referral form to any local chemist taking part in the Care at the Chemist scheme.

The pharmacist will be able to offer advice, supply you with medicines and if necessary refer you to the GP quickly. The pharmacist will record the results of the consultation in the Patient Record Book for you to keep. The pharmacist will also keep a record of the consultation and a copy will be sent to your GP for their records.

The scheme operates like the current prescription service, i.e. you will not have to pay if you are exempt from prescription charges.
